Madagascar Wildlife experiences : ideas on how to live sensational journey (part 2)

Like any other destinations, there is more than the cliché when it comes to Madagascar. Cliché is the popular, most attractive things travel marketers want to put in our mind in their advertising. Nevertheless, for your wildlife journey, you may travel for different reasons and we want you to have choices on how you spend your time. Here are our personal recommendations to live sensational journey in the western part of Madagascar.

Match the trip with your personality

Skip the itinerant travel and start to think about how would you like to spend your time in your favorite way, and make a list of things you do not want to miss for your next trip. To enjoy more, take your personality into account when selecting activities on your trip. Let’s take the case of the baobabs avenue in the west. If you don’t like the crowd, visiting the baobab avenue in the morning may suits you well because at that time, it’s less crowded. Or maybe, set up two visits, on the sunset and in the morning (it’s very beautiful on the sunset by the way). In that way, it would preferable if you plan to stay 2 nights in Morondava or spend overnight in the ecolodge « camp des amoureux » nearby.

Wellness and wildlife, together ?

Still on the western part, have you thought about a refreshing day where you could relax by a swimming pool in the middle of the nature and enjoy agreeable night strolls in the evening ? If you are a wellness traveler or one of the reasons you travel is to unwind, Western Madagascar may not be the first destination recommended to you because it is seen as an « adventure destination ». Yet, there is a little piece of heaven called  Relais de Kirindy (http://www.relaisdukirindy.com/) in the middle of the western dry forest. Actually, this address is perfectly located by the Kirindy Reserve which shelters amazing and abundant wildlife. For all nature lovers, it is a must. But you can enjoy more than widlife watching if you stay more than one night there.

The small things that make all the difference

Health and comfort always go together. Because of the suffocating warmth, limit physical activities in the morning (until 10AM) and in the afternoon (from 4PM). Bring  appropriate clothes and equipments for walking, swimming and late evening activities. Many destinations in this part of Madagascar are accessible only on dry – winter season, from june to october, but september and october are just perfect. Last but not the least, why not let positive imprint and support local conservation on your trip in many different ways? Many protected areas such as the avenue of baobabs are managed by local NGOs. We will talk more about this in another post.
